Happy July! We are deep into summer now, and even though Pride month is over, we can hold onto the fact that Pride doesn’t stop just because the calendar says so, anymore than the work of dismantling systemic oppression of any group of people stops because of the simple passage of time.
To that end, each week on this blog, we’re going to start sharing a couple of things we’re doing to fight systemic injustice and invite you to do the same. We recognize our privilege as a couple of white people with a platform, and we want to use that for more than just snarky quips and catchy tunes.
Here are two things you can do right now:
Donate to The Okra Project, an organization which combats food insecurity for Black trans and nonbinary folx.
Sign this petition from RAICES to tell the Trump administration to leave DACA alone.
Below is the Pride-themed 🏳️🌈 companion playlist for last week’s SpotiFriday show. (If you missed it, you can watch it here and here.)
You also might have heard us mention during 3@H@H that WE ARE RELEASING A NEW SONG ON THE INTERNET. That’s right: this Sunday, July 5th, we’re putting out a new track, our version of Dann’s song, “We Were There.” It’s the first single from a new collection of tracks we have been working on called “playlist. #notarecord.” (Because nobody puts out records anymore, people. Get with the times. 😉) We have four singles to release before putting out the whole collection, and we can’t wait for you to hear them. The virtual release party will be on FB Live this Sunday at 1 pm EDT. See you there?
And before Sunday, maybe we’ll catch you on SpotiFriday, where this week’s theme is modes of transportation. 🚙 🚂 🚲 🏍 ✈️
Peace,
Mary & Dann
